Mexican international students prepare for USACH Festival of Migrant Culture
Students will take the lead--together with the Mexican Association of Chile--of the commemoration of the Day of the Dead, which can be seen in depth in the courtyards of the School of Arts and Crafts (EAO).
International students from different parts of Mexico have gathered to participate in the III Festival of Migrant Culture, which takes place between October 10 and 30. Our university seeks to enable international students, as part of the USACH community, to show their own culture in first person. “This activity is open to the entire university community, especially Mexicans, to show their culture and the diversity that characterizes them,” says Andrés Zúñiga, Director of the Extension Department of the Vice-rectory of Outreach and Engagement.
Students will take the lead--together with the Mexican Association of Chile--of the commemoration of the Day of the Dead, the popular Mexican celebration to honor the deceased. The main event will be to set up an alter with all kinds of offerings. This will be installed in the courtyard of the EAO, which will be decorated in traditional style. They will also be present in the week of gastronomy, in the main cafeteria, providing information about a variety of dishes that will be available, such as Cemita Poblana, Pescado a la Veracruzana, Frijoles Refritos,Carnitas Mexicanas, among others.
"The Extension Department and the Department of International and Inter-University Relations worked jointly to include directly include international students who come from Mexico, who will be able to provide first hand support in the cultural presentation of their country. It will be an opportunity to experience Chilean-Mexican interculturality in the university campus itself," says Fernando Olmos, coordinator of Incoming mobility of the Department of International and Inter-university Relations.
