From the Lisbon Superior Technical Institute: USACH received first mobility of professional staff for 2022

In the context of the Erasmus+ agreement between both institutions, the University of Santiago received the coordinator of International Cooperation of the IST of Portugal. During his stay, he held meetings with members of the Usach International team, as well as meetings with the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology.
In the framework of the Inter-institutional Agreement of the Erasmus+ Program signed in 2021 between the University of Santiago of Chile and the Lisbon Superior Technical Institute, our House of Studies recently received Luis Moreira, coordinator of International Cooperation of the IST, and first mobility of professional staff that USACH has received in 2022.

Luis Moreira's stay at the University of Santiago represents the counterpart to the visit that Mayerley Pacheco, coordinator of Cooperation and Visits of the Department of International and Interuniversity Relations (DRII) of the USACH, made to theLisbon Superior Technical Institute between May and June of this year, which meant the first instance of rapprochement and collaboration in 2022 between the two institutions.

The stay of the IST International Cooperation Coordinator in our university was coordinated by the Department of International and Interuniversity Relations (DRII), from where a work agenda was managed that included bilateral spaces with each member of the DRII, as well as meetings with the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology.

The meetings with the different coordinations of the DRII allowed to analyze and identify points in common, as well as to explore alternatives for collaboration between the Department of International Relations of the University of Santiago and the International Affairs Area of the Lisbon Superior Technical Institute, such as the possibility of coordinating short summer courses or collaborations in other Erasmus+ projects.

Regarding student mobility, both parties expressed their interest in expanding the mobility agreement to the areas of humanities and business, as well as the definition of the Portuguese language for undergraduate classes and English for graduate classes (for USACH students who move to the IST). Also, Luis Moreira emphasized the interest of the students of the Lisbon Superior Technical Institute for mobility to the University of Santiago of Chile, in which context, in addition, the coordinator highlighted the way in which international students are received and accompanied at USACH.

It should be noted that the objective of the international mobilities executed under this agreement is to strengthen the cooperative relationship and advance in the identification of opportunities for international collaboration at the level of teaching, research and linkage with the environment. Meanwhile, the mobility of professional staff has allowed to know closely the work that the international units of each institution carry out, thus opening a meeting space that will allow the strengthening of inter-institutional links.
